Snooker Table Maintenance

In order to properly maintain a snooker table, it is very important to use proper equipment, otherwise the table can get damaged.

Brushing

The best object used to clean and remove the dust, chalk and other materials from a snooker table is a pure bristle brush containing horse hairs. The only way that a table should be brushed is towards the direction of the black spot, which is the direction of the nap of the table.

Back and forth motion brushing is an absolute no-no, as this will compromise the quality of the cloth. Short strokes, over the full length of the table is the best way to do this. In order to create optimal results, each stroke should cover the distance of approximately one to two feet.

Brushing should be done after every 10-20 hours of play.

Blocking

The best object used to push down the fibers of the cloth, and keep a snooker table running smoothly is a napping block. The only way that a table should be blocked is towards the direction of the black spot, which is the direction of the nap of the table.

Back and forth motion blocking will have the opposite effect on the fibers and keep them from staying down, thus affecting playability. Long strokes over the full length of the table is the best way to do this.

These blocking strokes can be done from one end of the table to the other in one constant motion. Blocking should be done after every 10-20 hours of play.

Ironing

The best object used to remove moisture from below the cloth of the table is an iron. While a regular iron can be used, we strongly recommend using an iron specifically used for snooker table cloth. These irons are thermostatically controlled and also have a temperature setting.

Never leave an iron sitting still on cloth for more than one or two seconds, or this will damage the cloth and leave permanent scarring. The only way that a table should be ironed is towards the direction of the black spot, which is the direction of the nap of the table.

This can be done from one end of the table to the other in one constant motion. Ironing should be done after every 20-40 hours of play.
